A man identified as Vontay Jackson is dead after a shooting took place in Oakville on Thursday, June 6.
The Memphis Police Department responded to the shooting around 4:30 p.m. in the area of Getwell and American Way, where officers found a man suffering from what looked like a gunshot wound.
Vontay Jackson was taken to Regional One Health in critical condition and later died, investigators said.
Dameon Thomas has been identified as the suspect who shot and killed Vontay Jackson.
Records showed that the alleged gunman, Dameon Thomas, shot Vontay Jackson multiple times after an argument became physical.
He was on the scene when officers arrived and was later taken into custody.
When he was taken into questioning, Thomas told investigators he shot the man in self defense.
When investigators looked at the video surveillance, and it refutes Thomas’ statement.
Thomas was charged with second degree murder and convicted felon in possession of a firearm, records showed.
