A North Charleston public works employee identified as Troy Ballin was killed July 18 after getting shot while on the job.
Troy Ballin was in a small city truck picking up recyclables in the Whitfield subdivision when the worker was wounded.
Detectives believe the employee was inside the vehicle when shot, North Charleston Police Department spokesman Harve Jacobs said.
The driver’s side window was shattered.
Troy drove out of the neighborhood onto Dorchester Road before crashing into a tree near Michaux Parkway, Jacobs said.
Troy was later transported in critical condition to Trident Medical Center, but did not survive.
The shooting occurred about 10:49 a.m., possibly on Mayfield Court, Jacobs said.
Detectives do not have a motive for the attack but do not think it was a random act or that the public is in continued danger, Jacobs said.
