The Marietta Police Department has identified the woman attacked and killed overnight at her apartment complex as 42-year-old Samantha Banton Woolery.
Police said that a suspect had been identified but would not be releasing a name as detectives work to arrest the person.
The homicide investigation began early Sunday morning when Marietta Police said they received word of a woman stabbed at the complex.
Based on the address given—425 Williams Drive—it looks like the investigation is happening at the Lakeside at Town Center Apartments.
Samantha Woolery, a dedicated Resident Physician at Morehouse School of Medicine and former nurse turned doctor, was found in her home at Lakeside at Town Center Apartments after coworkers went to check on her when she didn’t show up for work.
Police said she had visible cuts and was unresponsive, so the coworkers called 911.
While her door was closed, it was also unlocked when the friends arrived, police added.
According to police, this attack was an isolated incident by someone Wollery knew.
There is no known threat to the public at the time, and all evidence indicates the suspect left the area shortly after the attack happened.
