A Pelham man named Ryan Prudhomme has been identified as the person fatally shot during an incident with Nashua Police on Sunday.

Nashua police responded to the parking lot of Lowe’s Sunday night at 143 Daniel Webster Highway, where Ryan Prudhomme, 41, of Pelham, was shot by police.

Prudhomme died of a single gunshot wound to the chest. Shortly before 8:45 p.m., officers with the Nashua Police Department responded to the area of the Lowe’s home in Nashua, following up on a report from Pelham police officers of a man who was armed earlier in the evening and was last seen leaving his home.

A relative who called Pelham police said Prudhomme was experiencing mental health issues and was armed; the relative was concerned for his safety, according to radio broadcasts.

Police began pinging Prudhomme’s phone, and he was eventually located in the parking lot of Lowe’s, which is adjacent to BJ’s Wholesale Club.

The Attorney said two officers ultimately discharged less-lethal munitions, and one officer discharged a firearm.

Life-saving measures were attempted, but he suffered lethal injuries and died.

Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jennie Duval conducted an autopsy on Mr. Prudhomme on Monday. Dr. Duval determined that the cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the chest, and the manner of death was homicide.

As used by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, homicide is defined as the killing of one person by another.

NH State Police Major Crime Detectives worked at the scene Monday, documenting the scene and investigating.

According to Michael Garrity, the director of communications at the AG’s Office, no officers were physically injured in the incident.

The investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice and the New Hampshire State Police Major Crimes Unit into the officer-involved shooting is ongoing.

The identity of the officers using less lethal force will not be disclosed until formal interviews take place; this is expected to occur sometime in the next five to 10 days.

The exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain actively under investigation.
