Two Tennessee law enforcement agencies lost one of their own in a shooting this weekend.
A deputy with the McNairy County Sheriff’s Office, working part-time with the Selmer Police Department, is shot and killed while responding to a suspicious person at around 3 p.m. Saturday, according to the Selmer Police Department.
He has been identified as Sergeant Rick Finley.
The subject of the suspicious call reportedly attempted to force his way into a home on the 100 block of New Bethel Road and fired shots into a door, said police. He physically attacked Finley who responded to the area, and then shot him several times.
Another responding SPD officer, Lieutenant Ron Pilkington, returned fire on the subject, killing him.
The suspect has not been identified at this time.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation.
A procession will take place on Sunday as law enforcement officers from around the state escort Sgt. Finley’s body from the coroner’s office in Memphis back to McNairy County.
