A missing woman who vanished in Fayetteville last weekend was found dead Friday after she had been killed, police said Saturday.

Heather Williams, 25, was last seen on Jan. 4 in the Berkshire Road area of Fayetteville, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

A statewide missing, endangered alert was issued for Williams earlier this week.

Williams was considered endangered due to suffering from cognitive impairment with limited speech, police said.

The night she vanished was seen getting into a light-colored, sedan with a sunroof, police said.

On Friday, police said the car was located, but police did not mention if Williams was found.

On Saturday, police said detectives on Friday were led to a wooded area near Newark Ave. and State Ave. where Williams was found dead.

Earlier this week, Williams’ family made a plea for her safety.

“It’s all in God’s hands,” sister Mary Williams said. “He knows where she is. He’ll bring her home. All you can do is pray for her and do the best we can to bring her home.”

Police did not release any other information on Saturday.

“The Police Department’s Homicide Unit has assumed the investigation. This remains an active investigation,” police said in the release Saturday.
