A fatal accident shook Downtown West Palm Beach on Saturday morning, leaving one dead and another seriously injured.
The incident occurred on Banyan Boulevard when a 2021 Tesla Model 3, driven by a 26-year-old, struck a couple crossing the street.
The victims, identified as 25-year-old Melissa Carleen and 33-year-old Roberto Sanchez, were heading north to south across Banyan Boulevard.
At the time, the Tesla was traveling westbound toward Rosemary Avenue.
Both Carleen and Sanchez were rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center. Carleen, a newly licensed nurse, tragically died at the hospital. Sanchez remains in serious condition after undergoing emergency surgery.
West Palm Beach Police Traffic Homicide detectives revealed that the Tesla had a green light at the time of the crash. Police stated that no criminal charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing.
Carleen’s passing is a heartbreaking loss for her family and friends.
A graduate of Southern Regional High School, she had only recently completed her training to become a Registered Nurse in July. In a social media post on September 1, she shared her pride and gratitude: “From a student to a nurse, my dreams became a reality. Call me Melissa Carleen, RN.”
