Seabrook police have been investigating a homicide and investigators were trying to identify the person who fatally shot a 23-year-old woman Friday and left two young children alone in the apartment with her body.
Authorities responded to reports of a gunshot at an apartment complex, finding a woman dead in an apartment around 11:30 a.m.
The woman was publicly identified Saturday as Mary Jane Collins.
“The Seabrook Police Department is continuing efforts to identify the (shooter).
Preliminary findings suggest that Mary Jane Collins knew her assailant, and there is no ongoing threat to the Seabrook community,” according to a Saturday news release from Seabrook authorities.
Officials said they found two children inside the apartment along with the deceased woman, and the children were removed. Authorities added the children were discovered unharmed.
SWAT arrived on the scene soon after the woman was found Friday to search the apartment but the investigation remains ongoing, officials said.
