Victims and suspect identified in Bath double homicide

Lisa Bailey, 58, and her daughter, Jennifer Bailey, 32, of Bath, were killed in the shooting according

Authorities have identified the victims and suspect in a shooting that happened at 10 Crawford Drive in Bath around 7 a.m. Sunday morning, causing police to briefly issue a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents.

Lisa Bailey, 58, and her daughter, Jennifer Bailey, 32, of Bath, were killed in the shooting according to a news release late Sunday by Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss.

Police have also identified the suspect, 66-year-old Michael Bailey, of Bath. He was married to Lisa and the father of Jennifer, police said.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers from the Bath and Brunswick police departments and deputies from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office located two adult women suffering from gunshot wounds.

Despite lifesaving efforts, both women were pronounced deceased on scene.

The suspect initially was reported as having fled the scene following the shooting. The Maine State Police Tactical Team was called and located the suspect deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the residence.

Moss said there is no danger to the public and that state and local police are still investigating.

Bath Police Chief Andrew Booth told assembled media around noon Sunday that the shelter-in-place order had been issued “due to the uncertainty of the scene and what was going on. But once we determined everything was safe, we lifted that, and there’s no danger to the public.”

The order had been issued for the northern part of the city around 8:30 a.m. while officers responded to what was described at the time as a “situation” on Crawford Drive. At about 9 a.m., the shelter-in-place order was lifted.

Booth said officers have been in touch with residents of the area.

The deceased have been transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where autopsies will be performed.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and the Bath Police Department continue to investigate the incident.
