Legendary Meteorologist Don Luehrs Passes Away

Don Luehrs, a beloved former chief meteorologist for WBTW TV-13 in Florence/Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away on December 24, 2024.

Known for his warm personality and dedication to accurate weather reporting, Luehrs served as a trusted voice in the community for nearly two decades.

After leaving his role as chief meteorologist, he transitioned into healthcare, working as a Hospice Liaison for Agape Care Group for 12 years.

Luehrs also ran a weather website titled Weather Awareness with Don Luehrs, where he shared his thoughts on weather events and provided updates to followers.

On his site, he wrote, “My goal is to pass on weather information and include my thoughts on events as they occur.”

In addition to his weather and healthcare careers, Luehrs worked as a Community Educator at Community Home Care & Hospice and at RE/MAX Professionals.

He studied meteorology at Pennsylvania State University, laying the foundation for his distinguished career.

Don’s wife, Johnnie, shared a heartfelt tribute following his passing: “The world changed 12/24/2024. Still in shock. Still in disbelief. Still trusting God. Ready for the days ahead, No! Still trusting God, Yes! I miss holding his hand.”

Friends and colleagues described Luehrs as kind, compassionate, and deeply faithful.

His legacy extends beyond his professional achievements to the countless lives he touched with his generosity and warmth.
