What we know about the incident
Officers were called before 7:45 a.m. Monday after family members found Keyirra Tatyana Walker unresponsive inside her Carrol Drive home, authorities said.
The Sumter County Coroner’s Office was notified and has scheduled an autopsy on Wednesday.
Coroner Robbie Baker explained what he saw in Walker’s home and said his thoughts are with her family.
“She was deceased in her bedroom on her bed from an apparent gunshot wound… It was multiple, that’s all I’ll say. The city processed the scene for several, three, or four hours. Like I told her mother, no parent should have to bury their child. My thoughts and prayers go out to the mother, family, and children of Miss Walker,” Baker said.
Officers consider the incident isolated and said it most likely was carried out during the early morning hours by someone she knows.
Sumter Police confirmed there was no forced entry into Walker’s home.
Her neighbor, Russell Williams, lives across the street and says he didn’t hear anything unusual Monday morning.
Williams says he is heartbroken his neighbor is gone.
“I knew her as a sweet, outgoing young lady, always outside playing with her kids. She used to love to bring her little son over here and watch my dog. I just knew her as an outgoing, pretty, sweet young lady. Hopefully, we can find out who did it so we can get her family some closure,” Williams said.
