A 28 year old man identified as Kanan Starks lost his life after a 15-year-old crashed into two oncoming cars in Mount Airy on Tuesday.

According to police, it happened at approximately 7:40 a.m. on W. North Bend Road.

Police said that before the crash, officers attempted a traffic stop on a 2023 Honda CR-V, which had been reported stolen out of the city of Cincinnati.

The 15-year-old driver of the Honda purposely swerved and hit a Green Township police cruiser.

The teen then fled the scene, and a short chase began before officers lost sight of the car.

Officers later caught up to the stolen car and found that it had crashed into two other vehicles.

It’s believed that the 15-year-old crossed the marked centerline on W. North Bend Road and hit two cars. The teen then fled on foot before being located by police.

A 69-year-old female driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Mercy Health West Hospital.

The other driver involved in the crash, a 28-year-old Kanan Starks, was seriously hurt and was taken to UC Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

The teen is now charged with receiving stolen property, felonious assault on a police officer, and failure to comply with the signal of a police officer. Cincinnati police will handle the crash and any subsequent charges that stem from it.

Excessive speed is being investigated as a contributing factor to the crash.
