Jorge Guillen: El Paso couple in deadly hot tub incident at Mexican resort

A couple from El Paso were victims of a deadly jacuzzi incident while at a Mexican resort, according to family.

On Tuesday, Jorge Guillen, 43, was electrocuted while in a hot tub at the Resort Sonora Sea in Puerto Peñasco, while Lizette Zambrano, 35, was shocked and rushed to the hospital, according to Mexican authorities.

Zambrano was later taken to a hospital in the U.S. and was listed in critical condition.

The General Prosecutor’s Office for the State of Sonora reveals that a witness who knew the couple spotted them in the hot tub and noticed they weren’t moving.

When she tried to enter the water, she also was shocked. The witness then called for help.

Onlookers screamed in horror as CPR chest compressions were done on a person out of the jacuzzi on a disturbing video of the tragedy circulation on social media, including TMZ.

Similar jacuzzi and hot tub electrocutions have occurred in the past due to malfunctioning wiring that sends an electrical charge into the water.

A cause of death in the Puerto Peñasco case has not been officially determined.

Puerto Peñasco is a beach town frequented by U.S. tourists on the Gulf of California near the Arizona border, the El Paso Times reports.
