The Herbert Hoover High School community is grieving after the loss of one of their own.
Jamanda Rollyson Moore was an assistant coach for the Huskies softball team. She passed away on Sunday after a medical complication. She was 35 years old.
Before becoming a coach, Moore was a student-athlete at Herbert Hoover, and Missy Smith was her head coach. In 2017, Moore and Smith joined forces on the coaching staff.
“When our girls were nervous about a big game, she never was. She would remind them that they were made for that,” Smith said.
Smith and Moore won five state championships during their time together, and Smith says the two of them became a great one-two combination.
“The girls are very good at reading moods, and sometimes I’m not as approachable as they would like me to be. Jamanda was always approachable for the girls. Not just about softball, but about everything. She was really just a rock for them,” Smith said.
The players on the team say Moore was like a second mother, and it won’t be the same without her cheering them on from first base.
They will be dedicating their upcoming season to Moore and have their eyes and hearts set on winning a championship for her.
Moore is survived by her husband.
