Hempfield Township Soccer Coach Andy Grobe, 39, Passes Away Due To Heart-Attack

Andy Grobe, a Deputy Director for Allegheny County Parks, passed away due to a heart attack at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital at 39 on February 11, 2025.

His parents, Jane F. Grobe and the late J. Daniel Grobe raised him in a Catholic household in Latrobe.

Andy graduated from Greater Latrobe High School and attended Lock Haven University. He enjoyed outdoor activities, hiking in the national parks, traveling, and spending time with friends.

His presence was a constant source of kindness and joy for everyone around him. Sadly, his untimely demise sent shockwaves to his friends and family.

He was the best among his peers, and they will sadly miss him. His friends and family loved his good nature and ever-present smile.

Andy’s passing left a profound void in the broader community that he touched with generosity, warmth, and dedication.

In early 2000, he worked at Hempfield Township and coached children to play soccer. He was on the field coaching and playing.

Some even claimed he introduced pickleball to Hempfield.

Andy Grobe’s Family Mourns The Tragic Loss

Andy Grobe passed away after a massive heart attack, which led to extensive medical complications. His family prayed for his well-being, but it was already too late.

His family gave everything while fighting for him every second of every day.

His father, J. Daniel Grobe, maternal grandfather, Edward J. Skirtich, and paternal grandmother, Ruth (Robbins) Grobe, preceded him in death.

His mother, Jane; wife, Ashley; children, Camilla Jane and John Henry; and siblings, William, Jennifer, Elizabeth, and Matthew, survive him.

He had a close bond with his maternal grandmother, Dorothy F. Skirtich; father and mother-in-law, Richard and Jackelin Dzurna; and brother-in-law, Alex.

Moreover, his several nieces and nephews, Daniel and Grace Morgan, Joseph Stas, and Madison and Macy Grobe, survive him.

Andy’s funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, February 12, at 10:00 A.M with Fr. James F. Podlesny, O.S.B., as celebrant at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Whitney.

His family entrusted Frederick Funeral Home with arrangements and requested everyone to go directly to the church. His cremation will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery.

Nontheless, Andy’s best friend, Joseph Ortizorganized a GoFundMe fundraiser to help the Grobe family. He aimed to raise $100K, but Andy’s legacy helped raise $108,250 from 602 members.

If you know the Grobe family, you know the smile and easy laugh they all share. The Grobes are friends to all, and now they are up against the fight of their lives.
Andy has helped an untold number of people in his life and it’s our chance to help him and his young family through the GoFundMe set up by his dear friend Joe. Nobody deserves to go through what they are and I kindly ask you to at least take a look at how to help. If you can’t donate, please share with others.
