Greg Breedlove has been identified as the fan who lost his life during the first quarter of the Pelicans-Kings in-season tournament quarterfinal game at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on Monday night.
The Kings organization reported that at around 7:25 p.m. on Monday a guest had a medical emergency.
The Sacramento Fire Department and other emergency personnel responded to the scene.
“Golden 1 Center staff was notified that someone was unresponsive,” said Sacramento Fire Department. “When the engine got there they found a 30’s aged male.”
Sacramento Fire said emergency medical services administered CPR for 20 minutes, however, their efforts were unsuccessful.
Greg was pronounced dead at the scene.
Who was Greg Breedlove (Florez)?
Greg Breedlove also known as Greg Florez was a senior at Sacramento State.
He was due to graduate in May 2024 with a BA in Nutrition & Food major.
He worked as massage therapist in 2019.
According to sources, Greg had a heart condition which might have been the cause of his death.
Sacramento Kings statement
The Kings released a statement about the incident after the game.
“During the first quarter of the Kings vs. Pelicans game, a guest had a medical emergency,” the team said, per ESPN’s Marc J. Spears. “EMS immediately responded and administered CPR. Tragically, these efforts were unsuccessful and the guest passed away.
The organization offers its deepest condolences to the guest’s family and loved ones.”
After the Kings’ 127—117 loss to the Pelicans, Sacramento forward Keegan Murray said the team was not aware of the situation involving the fan.
Murray told ESPN, “As a team, we give our condolences. Hopefully, the family is being taken care of.”
