Fernando Jones: Homeowner killed after confronting car burglars identified

A 48-year-old homeowner was killed by would-be car burglars in Shelby County Monday morning, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).

Fernando Jones opened up the front door of his home on Cutter Mill Road just before 3 a.m. and yelled at the burglars when the thieves shot through his door, hitting him several times, SCSO said.

He died after being rushed to Regional One Health.

SCSO said that the shooters sped off in a white Honda Accord, model 2021 to 2024.

The car appears to have a black accent package, including black side mirrors, an antenna above the back glass and a possible thin black stripe across the rear spoiler.
