Two people were killed in a shooting near 31st Street Beach Friday morning, Chicago police said.
The brother of one of the victims said he was on the phone with his brother and could hear him starting to argue with other people at the beach and then gunfire broke out.
“Out of nowhere, all we hear was guys yell, ‘Watch this’ and like 20 seconds later all you hear on the phone is gunshots,” Albert Galvan, the victim’s brother, said. “He was a great guy. Like, yeah he did bad things in his life, but he don’t deserve this. He don’t deserve to die. He’s got two kids. One is one years old. The other is a couple months old.”
He identified his brother as 23-year-old Elijah Dillon Bombin. From northwest Indiana. He said Bombin’s girlfriend was also killed in the shooting.
Police said at about 3:19 a.m. 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were found dead inside a vehicle at 3155 South DuSable Lake Shore Drive near the boat launch.
Both victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Investigators said the man was exchanging gunfire with multiple people at the scene and several people are in custody.
