As a result of her celebrity status, Actress Efia Odo’s life has constantly been under the media’s microscope. The actress turned Radio and TV presenter has previously been in the media for some less than favourable reasons, mostly due to some controversies; something most celebrities are no stranger to.
In a similar manner as some of her unfavourable moments have been publicized, ghlinks.com.gh has, in fairness, shed light on her most recent favourable moment which deserves commendation and support; her visit to Echoing Hills Village – An inclusive residential facility for Persons with Disability and Vulnerable children. It’s located on the Madina Social Welfare road.
In an interview with ghlinks.com.gh, the Radio and TV personality recounted being contacted by Echoing Hills Village via Twitter; about how many retweets it’d take for her to visit the facility and spend time with the children. Efia Odo in her reply to management of the facility expressed interest in visiting at no cost at all (retweets).
The actress went a step further and donated some bottles of water, toiletries, snacks, etc. when she visited the facility. She also actively engaged in games with the children and further educated members of her crew about various disabilities and autism (a neurobehavioural condition).
When asked about what inspired her decision to start a foundation, she detailed how she, at the age of fourteen (14), with her mum, used to contribute in the way they could, to the needy in New York City. It drove her to aspire to be the “Oprah of Africa” and in the near future, build schools for children, etc., and help society at large. The foundation is a start to realising her aspiration of being the “Oprah of Africa”.
Efia stated that most often than not, she’s contacted by random people and is asked to help pay school fees or bills of ailing relatives, and she helps. She explained that the main reason why those acts of charity are done silently is because she finds it needless to reveal them. However, she’s highlighting this particular endeavour because she believes it will inspire and motivate people to give back to society and also, draw the government’s attention to these societal issues.
The “Odonti” (because of love) Foundation was founded by Efia Odo, who is known outside of showbiz as Andrea Owusu. It has been in existence for a year and has its main objective as being the backbone for other organisations that seek to help fix societal issues. Currently, its focus is on helping children. The “Odonti” Foundation, quite recently funded the “Books and Boots” organization, founded by Yaw Ampofo Ankrah. The “Books and Boots” organisation helps children by training and developing them through their exposure to soccer. The “Odonti” Foundation is currently funded by Efia Odo and a few family and friends.
