Katherine Feinstein is the only biological child of the longest-serving female US senator in history Dianne Feinstein and her first husband Judge Jack K. Berman.
She was born in 1957 and took the surname of her stepfather, Bertram Feinstein, after her mother’s marriage in 1962.

Katherine Feinstein grew up in San Francisco and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1980 with a degree in political science.
She then went on to earn a law degree from Hastings College of the Law in 1984.

In 2000, she was appointed to the San Francisco Superior Court.

Katherine’s husband is Rick Mariano, a San Francisco-based realtor and commercial estate broker.
Previously, Rick worked at Blum Capital; an equity investment management firm owned by Katherine’s late stepfather Richard Blum.
Katherine and Rick have one child together; a daughter named Eileen Feinstein Mariano.
Eileen has followed her mother and grandmother into politics, she manages state and federal affairs for London Breed; the 45th mayor of San Francisco.
