Anna Machado, the mother of a 16-year-old girl who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, attacked Frank DeLeon Jr. in a Houston courtroom on Tuesday.
Machado was giving her impact statement during DeLeon’s sentencing hearing when she charged at him and tried to attack him.
She was restrained by police before she could reach him.
As Machado was being held back, Alvarez’s uncle rushed DeLeon and punched the alleged murderer several times.
Court employees tackled the man to the ground while DeLeon was ushered to a corner, video captured by KHOU from outside the courtroom shows.
Alvarez’s uncle was taken into custody after the fight.
It’s unclear if he will be charged with anything.
Machado was clearly emotional as she spoke about her daughter’s death.
She called DeLeon a “monster” and said that she would never forgive him.
DeLeon was sentenced to 45 years in prison for murdering Machado’s daughter, Diamond Alvarez. Alvarez was found shot to death in January 2022.
Machado’s attack on DeLeon comes as more and more victims’ families are speaking out about the pain and suffering that they have endured.
Many families say that the criminal justice system does not adequately address their needs and that they often feel ignored and forgotten.
