Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred late last night at 9701 Westheimer Road.
According to authorities, the incident took place around 10:20 p.m. on Monday, October 28.
The victim, identified by family members as Daryl Brett Breland, was struck and killed while attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of Westheimer outside of a crosswalk.
The driver involved fled the scene, and no witnesses have yet come forward to assist in identifying the vehicle or its driver. Breland’s family has urged the public to assist with any available information, hoping it may help authorities in their search for answers.
The Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division, led by Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer R. Young, is handling the investigation.
Their preliminary report on the City of Houston’s website confirms that Breland was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.
Emergency responders from the Houston Fire Department arrived promptly, but Breland was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
