A 19 year old woman identified as Cyra Magby was found lying on the street suffering from a gunshot wound following a traffic crash late Tuesday on the South Side.

About 11 p.m. officers were called to a traffic crash in the 800 block of West Garfield Boulevard, where they found Cyra Magby unresponsive, police said.

Cyra C. Magby, was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A 19-year-old passenger in her vehicle was also taken to an area hospital with facial lacerations and was listed in serious but stable condition, police say.

According to police, Cyra Magby was driving a Chevy Malibu in the in the 800 block of West Garfield Boulevard, near the border of the New City and Englewood neighborhoods, around 11 p.m. Tuesday, when a silver SUV approached and someone inside opened fire.

The woman sustained a gunshot wound to the back, police say, which caused her to lose control of the Malibu and strike a Volkswagen Jetta in the 5400 block of South Halsted Street.

According to police, the driver and passenger of the Jetta, a 43-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, both sustained minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital in good condition.

The SUV from which an offender fired the gunshots fled the scene, police say. Nobody is in custody.
