Columbia woman killed in multi-vehicle crash on South Carolina road

Monica Wright, a 48-year-old Columbia resident, died in what Coroner Robbie Baker called an accident

A South Carolina woman was killed early Sunday morning in a crash, according to the Sumter County Coroner’s Office.

Monica Wright, a 48-year-old Columbia resident, died in what Coroner Robbie Baker called an accident.

The multi-vehicle collision happened at about 2 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 378/Broad Street and S.C. 261/South Kings Highway, Baker said in a news release.

That’s near Shaw Air Force Base. Wright died at the scene from the injuries she suffered in the crash with another vehicle, according to the release.

There was no word if any other people were injured, but Wright was the only fatality reported by the coroner’s office.

It was not reported if Wright was a driver or passenger in a vehicle, or if she was wearing a seat belt.

An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Baker said.

Information about what caused the vehicles to collide was not available, but the wreck is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol as well as the coroner’s office.
