Six people are in custody following a fatal shooting in west suburban Oak Park.
According to police, officers responded around 1:20 a.m. Friday to calls of shots fired at 651 South Boulevard.
Upon arrival, a 54-year-old Army Veteran, Corey Gates of South Holland, Illinois – was found lying in the street with an apparent gunshot wound.
Gates was transported to Loyola Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said a witness observed five male subjects, who were wearing black clothing, fleeing the scene on foot.
Those five individuals – three juveniles and two adults – were located, detained and transported to the Oak Park Police Department, according to authorities.
Just after 3:30 p.m. Friday, authorities said another man had been taken into custody in connection with the shooting, bringing the total number of suspects arrested to six: three juveniles and three adults.
No weapons have been recovered.
The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.
