A 31-year-old Amarillo man was killed late Monday in a crash involving a recreational vehicle on Interstate 40 near Groom.
The crash happened about 11:18 p.m., about 0.89 miles west of Groom. The roadway was clear, with dry pavement, and the posted speed limit in the area is 75 mph.
The crash involved a 2004 Roadtrek 190 Popular RV, traveling eastbound in the right lane.
The driver, 35-year-old Brandon Langston of Duncan, Oklahoma, attempted to avoid a pedestrian who was standing in the roadway by braking and swerving to the right but was unable to avoid the collision.
The pedestrian, identified as Johnathan Morales, 31, of Amarillo, was pronounced dead at the scene by Carson County Justice of the Peace Kathleen Barkley.
Langston, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured in the crash. Two passengers in the RV, Laura McCartney, 52, of Oklahoma City, and Kevin Scott, 43, of Moore, Oklahoma, were also uninjured. McCartney was not wearing a seatbelt while Scott was.
The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
