Alex Smolecki, 20-Year-Old UWGB Swimmer, Passes Away

Alex Smolecki, a dedicated swimmer and student at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, tragically passed away on February 26, 2025.

According to unverified sources, his d*ath was the result of a fatal shooting.

Alex, a member of the university’s swimming and diving team, was identified as the victim of this devastating incident.

Alex had an impressive swimming career at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School, where he earned All-Conference honours, a 2020 Sectional Championship, and Academic All-State recognition. He also earned Honor Roll status every semester.

As a freshman in 2022-23, he made a strong impact, winning first place in the 200-yard breaststroke at St. Thomas and contributing to a 200-medley relay team that finished with a time of 1:34.05 against St. Norbert.

He also earned six points and placed 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Horizon League Swimming & Diving Championships, with a time of 56.80.

In his sophomore year (2023-24), Alex continued to excel. He took second in the 100-yard breaststroke and third in the 200-yard breaststroke against St. Thomas.

He also placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke and third in the 200-yard breaststroke at the Wisconsin Showcase.

Furthermore, he competed against Valparaiso, earning second place in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes, and claimed first in the 100-yard breaststroke against Northern Michigan.

Alex finished the season strong with a first-place finish in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes against Milwaukee.

Before his passing, the 20-year-old was pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering as a junior. After graduation, he planned to move back home and start his career.

In July 2024, Alex completed an internship with United Airlines.
