The Kansas City Police Department reports a homicide took place in the area near 34th Street and Garfield Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri.
KCPD says that around 8:15 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of East 34th Street and Garfield Avenue on a reported shot spotter activation (a gunshot detection system). While officers were on their way, they received calls with reports of shots fired in the same area.
When officers arrived, KCPD says EMS was on the scene assisting an adult female victim out of a vehicle.
She was suffering from gunshot wounds and was taken to an area hospital where she was declared dead shortly after.
KCPD has identified the victim as 44-year-old Ebony Davis.
KCPD believes the shots came from outside the vehicle, striking the Davis.
KCPD also says at this time there is no person of interest and no one is in custody.
Homicide detectives are currently collecting evidence and gathering witness statements.
