A quiet afternoon in a St. Louis neighborhood turned deadly Thursday when a double shooting on the 2600 block of Rutgers Avenue claimed the life of one man and left a woman critically injured.
Police responded to the scene around 12:40 p.m. after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found 26-year-old Chauncey Mitchell and a 25-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, Mitchell was pronounced dead on arrival.
The woman remains in critical but stable condition.
